Golfing hotspots don’t come much better than Spain’s Costa del Sol – or the Costa del Golf, as many players refer to it. Players have been flocking to the area’s sun-kissed fairways for nearly a century after the Real Club de Campo opened its doors in 1925.
These days, golfers visit Spain from around the globe, with golf tourism bringing the country an income of nearly €11.2 billion per year, according to research by the IE University from Segovia.

There are plenty of good reasons why the Costa del Sol is such a winning golf destination. Firstly, it has the greatest concentration of golf courses in Europe, with over 70 courses. This plethora of facilities means that there are courses for all abilities, from those just getting into golf to professional players. Between its golf academies, friendly local competitions and international championships, the Costa del Sol has something for everyone when it comes to playing golf.
The region is also welcoming to players of all ages, as well as all handicaps. There are over 350,000 registered junior golfers (those under the age of 18) in Europe, according to the European Golf Participation Report 2021. England is home to 45,304 of them (accounting for 7% of all English golfers) and Spain to 33,751 (accounting for 12% of all golfers in Spain). With an emphasis on training and practice facilities as well as courses, the Costa del Sol has plenty to offer younger players.
There is also a huge range of golf properties in the Costa del Sol, with leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España among those offering high-quality homes with outstanding access to some of the region’s most popular courses. It has a great family vibe, with entertainment that can keep family members of all ages happy, as well as the abundant sunshine that gives the area its name.
This versatility is reflected on the property side of things, as well. The apartments at Solemar at Casares Beach, for example, offer the best of both worlds in terms of golf and beach access, being just 0.75 km from the fine sands of Playa Ancha, while the renowned Finca Cortesín golf complex is less than 10 minutes away by car.
