London Start-up Gubbe is Expanding Its Network of Corporate Partners

A London start-up is working with a growing number of business partners to offer elderly care services as an employee perk.

Companies often provide access to a range of perks, such as health insurance, retail discounts and fitness facilities.

But the race to attract and keep the best talent is making businesses explore more modern perks, including caring for relatives.

Subscription-based elderly care platform Gubbe is attracting increased interest from companies who use their service to help employees’ loved ones with tasks such as household chores or simply providing companionship.

Gubbe co-founder Sandra Lounamaa said: “Gubbe offers a new kind of elderly care service that can keep seniors active, help them with everyday tasks and teach technology skills.

We were founded in Finland and have firmly established ourselves in the Nordics but we have recently expanded into the UK and we are fast growing our network of corporate partners who are giving employees access to our services as an added benefit.

Businesses are telling us they want to diversify the range of perks they can offer, and the feedback they are receiving from employees about Gubbe’s services is really pleasing.

Many of the elderly people we serve have conditions such as dementia or struggle to move independently.

Gubbe helpers can take them to the toilet, cook and feed them, change their bed sheets, and do other house chores, as well as little tasks such as going outdoors.

It’s a very busy time for us right now as we continue our expansion into the UK and continue to harness technology to improve our service.

We’ve started with Greater London but the plan is to expand into cities across the country as soon as possible.”

Founded in 2018 in Finland by Meri-Tuuli Laaksonen and Sandra Lounamaa, the company has further expanded into Sweden and now Greater London.

Subscribers are often relatives of the senior citizens and purchase home visits from local younger people who help with household chores and spend quality time with their loved ones.

Its mission is to solve the huge global health issue of an ageing society and struggling public health care.
