MediaTek reports Q3 revenue of NT$168.1bn; says AI accelerator shipments began in September

MediaTek reported consolidated revenue of NT$168.058bn for the third quarter of 2026, up 10.4% from the previous quarter and 18.3% from a year earlier. The company also said initial shipments of its first AI accelerator commenced in September.

Consolidated net income reached NT$28.199bn, an increase of 14.6% quarter on quarter and 10.8% year on year, according to its official earnings release. Both revenue and net income were therefore higher across the two reporting comparisons.

In its earnings-call transcript, MediaTek said a second AI-accelerator project was on track for high-volume production in the first quarter of 2028. That timetable is a forward-looking project update, distinct from the shipment commencement reported for its first accelerator.

Revenue and net income rise

The revenue total rounds to NT$168.1bn, while the net income figure rounds to NT$28.2bn. The more precise figures in the official release are NT$168.058bn and NT$28.199bn respectively, with the percentage changes applying to those consolidated quarterly results.

The quarterly comparisons measure performance against the second quarter of 2026. The annual comparisons measure it against the third quarter of 2025. They provide two separate reference points for the latest results, rather than interchangeable measures of growth.

Revenue growth was stronger on the annual comparison than on the quarterly comparison: 18.3% against 10.4%. Net income showed the opposite pattern, with its 14.6% quarterly increase exceeding the 10.8% rise recorded against the same period a year earlier.

Comparing the two financial measures within each period also shows a difference. Net income grew faster than revenue quarter on quarter, whereas revenue grew faster than net income year on year. The direction of growth was positive in both cases.

These comparisons describe the pace of change in the reported totals. They should be kept separate from the AI-accelerator milestones: the revenue and net income figures are consolidated financial results, while the transcript’s shipment and production statements concern the progress of individual projects.

Two distinct accelerator milestones

MediaTek’s statement on its first AI accelerator places the commencement of initial shipments in September. The wording identifies a completed step — shipments had begun — rather than a target for a future start. It also specifically describes those shipments as initial.

For the second project, the company gave a different type of update. It said the project was on track for high-volume production in the first quarter of 2028, identifying both the planned production stage and the quarter in which it was expected.

The two statements therefore should not be treated as equivalent production announcements. One concerns the beginning of shipments for the first accelerator; the other concerns progress towards a future high-volume production target for the second. The September milestone applies to the first project.

Likewise, the first-quarter 2028 timetable applies to the second project. MediaTek’s description of that project as “on track” records its assessment at the earnings call. It does not turn the planned high-volume production date into an outcome that has already occurred.

The reported shipment start and the later production target sit alongside, but are separate from, the third-quarter earnings figures. Their significance is the distinction between an initial shipping milestone already reached and a high-volume manufacturing milestone still expected for another accelerator project.

MediaTek’s update thus combines higher consolidated revenue and net income with two different stages of AI-accelerator progress: initial shipments of the first device began in September, while high-volume production for the second project remained a first-quarter 2028 target at the time of the call.
