Russian attacks kill eight and injure 51 across Ukraine in a day

Ukrainian regional authorities reported that Russian attacks killed eight people and injured 51 others across the country during a 24-hour reporting period spanning 24 and 25 October. The figures bring together accounts from several regions after overnight drone strikes and other attacks, and remain a time-sensitive snapshot while emergency work and damage assessments continue.

In Vinnytsia, a drone struck a five-storey residential building early on 25 October. The Vinnytsia Oblast Military Administration said six people were injured and one was taken to hospital. Structural damage was reported between the second and third floors, with four flats destroyed and nearby parked cars damaged. A private residential care home for older people was also damaged elsewhere in the region; 15 residents were evacuated.

Firefighters had put out the fires connected with the Vinnytsia attack, while rescue teams continued clearing rubble. More than 60 emergency workers and 14 vehicles were deployed at the site. The regional administration also reported damage to critical and civilian infrastructure, as well as private homes, across the wider area. The available accounts did not give a final assessment of all damage or a timetable for repairs.

The Ukrainian Air Force said 153 Shahed-type drones were launched overnight, including 92 jet-powered drones. It reported that air defences intercepted 119 drones, among them 64 jet-powered aircraft. The service said that, as of 8am, efforts against drones still in the air were continuing. It also reported impacts at 15 locations and falling debris at nine others. Those operational figures were preliminary and may be revised as information is checked.

Elsewhere, authorities in Dnipropetrovsk region reported three deaths and 14 injuries in the Synelnykove district, while two women were reported killed and five people injured in the Nikopol district. In Kharkiv region, officials reported one death in Lozova and a further seven injuries across Lozova, Kharkiv, Derhachi and Mala Danylivka. Donetsk region reported one death and six injuries in separate locations.

In Sumy region, officials reported that one woman was killed at a farm in the Buryn community and four people were injured in attacks there and in the Boromlia community. Four people were reported injured in Zaporizhzhia region, where authorities said dozens of settlements had come under fire. Kherson region reported two injuries after attacks on settlements including the regional centre.

Two women were reported to have suffered acoustic trauma in Chernihiv after a strike on the regional capital on 24 October. Kyiv authorities also reported one injury after a drone attack that day. Together with the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Sumy reports, those regional updates account for the stated nationwide casualty total.

The reports describe harm to civilians and civilian property across a number of regions, but they do not establish a final overall picture of the damage. Casualty totals in active conflict can change as rescue work continues and authorities receive further information. The initial accounts also do not set out a complete assessment of damage to essential services in every affected locality. No identities of those killed or injured were included here.
