London fintech ANNA Money acquires BDG and UKBF to build AI colleague for SMEs

London fintech ANNA Money acquires BDG and UKBF to build AI colleague for SMEs

London-based fintech firm ANNA Money has acquired Business Data Group (BDG) and UK Business Forums (UKBF) in a strategic move to create an AI-powered operating system for small and medium-sized enterprises. The acquisition, announced on 22 July, integrates company formation services and community support directly into ANNA’s platform, allowing entrepreneurs to seamlessly transition from incorporation to day-to-day financial management.

The deal highlights a growing trend towards “journey compression” for London’s micro-businesses and startups, where founders can now incorporate their business and immediately access AI-driven financial tools in a single place. This homegrown fintech is building what it describes as an “AI colleague” to help local entrepreneurs scale without the immediate need to hire administrative staff.

Expanding Market Reach and Community Support

The acquisition brings significant market share and community engagement to ANNA Money. BDG is a major player in the UK company formations sector, currently accounting for approximately 30% of the independent company formation market. Meanwhile, UKBF is a long-established community platform that supports over 160,000 small business owners and entrepreneurs across the country.

ANNA Money, which already serves more than 50,000 active customers every month, aims to leverage these new assets to strengthen its position in the market. By integrating BDG’s eFiling platform and UKBF’s extensive community network, the company plans to offer a more comprehensive suite of services to its growing user base.

Strategic Vision for AI in Business Administration

Eduard Panteleev, Co-founder and Co-CEO of ANNA Money, emphasised the strategic alignment of the acquisition. He noted that the company’s success is inherently tied to the success of the businesses it helps get started.

“The fastest way for ANNA to grow is to help the independent formation agents who rely on BDG’s eFiling platform grow, too,” Panteleev said. “Rather than competing with these agents, ANNA is investing in the technology, automation and tools that strengthen their position in the market, helping them serve their customers better.”

Panteleev also highlighted the broader vision for AI in business administration, pointing out that most businesses eventually reach a point where growth necessitates hiring more people simply to address administrative needs. “We don’t think that should be the only option anymore. Our ambition at ANNA is to build the first truly capable AI colleague for small businesses,” he added.

Leadership Changes and Future Investment

Following the acquisition, there will be key leadership changes within the newly acquired entities. Richard Osborne, the founder of BDG and UKBF, will continue in his role as Chairman of Business Data Group. Rebecca Hill, who has been a dedicated member of the BDG team for 18 years, has been appointed as the new CEO of BDG.

Osborne expressed his strong support for the partnership, noting that both BDG and UK Business Forums have always been dedicated to helping small business owners start up and focus on what they do best.

“ANNA shares that same ambition, so joining just made sense and gives us the backing to invest further in both platforms while keeping the independence, brands and relationships our partners and members value,” Osborne stated.

A Boost for London’s Startup Ecosystem

For London’s vibrant startup ecosystem, this acquisition represents a significant step forward in simplifying the entrepreneurial journey. By combining company formation, community support, and AI-driven financial management, ANNA Money is positioning itself as a crucial partner for new businesses looking to scale efficiently.

The integration of these services is expected to reduce the administrative burden on founders, allowing them to focus more on innovation and growth. As the demand for streamlined business solutions continues to rise, this move by ANNA Money could set a new standard for how fintech companies support SMEs in the UK capital and beyond.
