Costa Coffee’s unveils refreshed Great Portland Street store with bold new look and elevated experience

The Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop, Costa Coffee*, is excited to have re-opened its doors at 111 Great Portland Street, London – revealing a fully modernised store designed to deliver an elevated coffee experience for every kind of visit.

The redesigned store features a fresh, contemporary layout, and a bold new interior design that blends comfort, warmth and style. A new open plan counter puts Costa Coffee’s expert baristas at the heart of the experience, offering customers a view of their handcrafted drinks being made with care. For added convenience, sleek self-service digital kiosks have been introduced to make ordering easier and faster for those on the go.

Inside, a refined colour palette and soft, ambient lighting create a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Artistic touches, including abstract artwork and wall installations inspired by coffee landscapes, also add to the inviting feel of the store. The space has been thoughtfully laid out with a variety of seating options—high stools, cosy booths, and lounge chairs, catering to everything from quick visits to long, relaxed stays.

Every element of the refurbishment has been carefully considered to enhance hospitality and comfort. The revitalised space reflects Costa Coffee’s commitment to its customers and the communities it serves, combining the craft of exceptional coffee with the ease of a modern store convenience.

At the heart of it all is continued investment in Costa Coffee’s passionate baristas, whose passion remains central to every visit. And of course, every cup continues to feature the iconic Mocha Italia Signature taste, delivering the same great coffee customers know and love.

Nick Ridley, Property & Store Development Director for UK&I at Costa Coffee, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome customers back to our newly refreshed Great Portland Street store. This transformation reflects our ongoing investment in Central London and our ambition to create modern and inviting spaces, where enjoying a coffee becomes a meaningful part of the day. Whether you’re grabbing a Flat White to-go or settling in for the afternoon, we’re proud to offer an experience that’s as premium as the coffee we serve.”

This full store refresh is part of a wider series of major investments across Central London, following recent transformations at Costa Coffee’s New Oxford Street, Tooley Street, Argyll Street and Wigmore Street locations. Together, these upgrades highlight the brand’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its store estate and delivering a coffee experience that meets the needs of every kind of visit.

About Costa Coffee

Founded in London by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971, Costa Coffee is present in over 50 countries around the world, with 2,800+ coffee shops in the UK & Ireland and 1,400+ globally. We are proud to be the Nation’s Favourite coffee shop, having been awarded “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in the UK” by Allegra Strategies for 15 consecutive years (2010 – 2024).

Making a positive contribution to the communities we are part of is extremely important to us, both here in the UK and across the world. Our global charity partner, the Costa Foundation, was established in 2007 with the aim of improving the life chances of children in coffee growing communities by helping them access a safe, quality education. So far, The Costa Foundation has funded over 100 school projects and changed the lives of more than 120,000 children. We also have a UK-wide Community Programme, established in 2014 to empower our teams to support causes that matter most to the local areas we’re part of. Our stores serve as warm and welcoming hubs where people can come together, connect, and make a positive impact—whether through local events, charitable initiatives, or our Community Grants scheme.

In 2011, Costa Coffee purchased Coffee Nation, which was rebranded and expanded to become Costa Express – now a well-known brand delivering quality coffee on-the-go. In 2024, we introduced Costa Coffee Professional as our dedicated away from home brand. Costa Coffee Professional provides total coffee solutions for a wide variety of businesses, including on-the-go and convenience locations, hotels, petrol stations and workplaces. We operate in 20 international markets, with over 15,000+ coffee machines in the UK&I and more than 1,600+ globally.

Serving the same Costa Coffee Mocha Italia Signature Taste coffee beans found in our stores, and using fresh milk, we deliver a delicious cup of coffee through both on-the-go and served channels via our extensive portfolio of proprietary and outsourced machines. As a holistic coffee solutions company, Costa Coffee Professional now has a presence in 22 international markets and supports over 30,000+ sites across the UK and globally.  www.costa.co.uk
