Founder Spotlight: Jaz Singh – Pioneering Sustainable Food Production | 40 Under 40 Series

Jaz Singh, the Founder and CEO of Innovation Agritech Group (IAG), is a visionary leader dedicated to revolutionising food production for a sustainable future. The agriculture industry’s role in global pollution and carbon emissions is a concern, and Jaz recognised that humanity’s paramount challenge is supplying clean, green, and long-term sustainable food solutions. In 2017, he founded IAG with a singular vision: to pioneer practical, eco-friendly solutions to these challenges. Jaz’s passion, boundless energy, and creativity have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Despite facing the hurdles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and energy crisis, Jaz has led IAG to successfully close its latest investment round at £11 million in November 2022.

Innovative Technology

Jaz’s relentless pursuit of innovative solutions led to the development of the world’s first vertical aeroponic grow panels, a technology that has since evolved into the flagship product: the IAG GrowFrame360™. This groundbreaking technology enables the year-round, impeccable growth of top-quality crops without sunlight, soil, and minimal water usage. The technology can produce up to 17 harvest cycles a year, 6 times more than traditional farmland can produce, with proven success in growing over 50 crop varieties. IAG holds three US and 1 EU patents for this pioneering technology.

Core Values

Embedded in IAG’s DNA are Jaz’s values of integrity, growth focus, and innovation over imitation. These values form the foundation of the company’s culture, shaping its ten core values, which guide all company activities. IAG’s goal is to enable individuals to grow nutritious produce in urban environments and harsh climates, using minimal water, without soil degradation or fertiliser pollution. This is a significant step towards an agricultural industry that benefits everyone.

World-Class R&D Facility

Under Jaz’s leadership, IAG has designed, engineered, and developed its flagship technology at an ultramodern R&D facility in Bracknell, Berkshire. Spanning 10,000 square feet, this vertical growing facility, one of the largest in the UK, includes a dedicated plant science laboratory. It has become a world-class hub for researchers, including some of the UK’s top universities, advancing the understanding of vertical farming and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). The University of Essex, renowned for plant science and innovation, recently purchased IAG’s GrowFrame360™ technology for their £3.5 million Smart Technology Experimental Plant Suite.

Leading the IPO

Exciting times lie ahead as Jaz leads IAG through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Collaborating with world-class professionals, including lawyers, auditors, nomads, and brokers, IAG is set to be listed on the London Stock Exchange in AIM. This milestone will make Jaz one of the youngest-ever CEOs of a public company at 33.

Global Expansion and Partnerships

Jaz’s leadership has forged a productive partnership with Co-Alliance, an agribusiness in the Midwestern USA. Co-Alliance holds a stake in IAG, with two of their senior executives sitting on IAG’s Advisory Board, setting the stage for future US expansion. The company has rapidly expanded operations globally, collaborating with clients across the UAE, Asia, and Europe.

Diversity and Inclusion

Since 2020, IAG has tripled its employee numbers, with a leadership team including 50% women and 50% people of ethnic minority backgrounds. Jaz is a staunch advocate for diversity and inclusion, recognising that a variety of experiences and perspectives at the decision-making table drives innovation and strengthens the company. As a British-Asian CEO in the UK farming sector, he was honoured with the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ award at the British Sikh Awards. IAG has also been selected as a finalist for the ‘Agri-Tech Innovator of the Year’ at the British Farming Awards 2023 and the ‘Agritech & Innovation Excellence Award’ at the FPC Fresh Awards 2023.

Leader in Vertical Farming

Jaz passionately believes in vertical farming and has proven himself as one of its leading advocates. He has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and public discussions and served on the agri-tech ‘Circle of Leaders’ panel. IAG, under his guidance, became one of the first vertical farming companies in the UK to be accredited by the Global G.A.P and Red Tractor schemes of food certification.

A Vision for a Sustainable World

In a world projected to reach a population of 9.7 billion by 2050, Jaz’s technology holds the potential to revolutionize food production and offer a solution to food shortages. The soilless technology allows growers to grow closer to their consumers, reducing food miles and carbon emissions, all while using much less water and without polluting ecosystems with fertilizers. IAG’s innovative solutions are reshaping the agriculture landscape and offering a pathway to combat world hunger and alleviating food shortages. Through Jaz’s visionary leadership, IAG is sowing the seeds of change that will cultivate a more nourished, interconnected, and sustainable world for generations to come.
