Twickenham’s high street was buzzing with excitement this week as the UK’s first School of Rock opened its doors with a star-studded red-carpet launch.

Matias Puga officially opens the UK’s first ever School of Rock
The former Barclays bank on York Street has been transformed into a vibrant hub of music, creativity, and career opportunities, offering local young people and aspiring musicians a stage to perform, learn, and shine.
A Star-Studded Opening and a Local Job Boost
Entrepreneur and drummer Matias Puga-Hamilton, who has successfully launched 24 School of Rock franchises across Latin America, is leading the UK rollout. He aims to create 20–30 local jobs in the first year, including music instructors, technical crew, and support staff, with plans for 50 schools nationwide in the coming years.
“Music is an international language that can change lives,” said Puga-Hamilton.
“Seeing the transformation School of Rock inspired in my daughters inspired me to bring it to the UK — the birthplace of so much of the music we celebrate and teach.”
Performance, Community, and Opportunity
The school focuses on performance-based learning, helping students gain confidence by playing in bands and performing live. Partnerships with local venues also provide paid opportunities for stage crews, lighting technicians, and sound engineers, strengthening Twickenham’s creative ecosystem.
Local councillors welcomed the launch, praising it as a win for employment and positive cultural activity in the area. Twickenham’s musical legacy — from The Who’s early days at Eel Pie Island to the current live-music scene — continues with this exciting addition.
