I’d always been confused when it came to sunscreen, what with all the different terms used in the industry. However, that all changed when a friend of mine gave me a tip to try this new Australian sun lotion he’d been using for his family. I took his advice and gave it a try and the experience I had (and am still having to this day) is what’s in my Blue Lizard Sunscreen review.
First, a little word on Blue Lizard the company – they’re from Australia where they know a thing or two about intense sunshine. They make mineral sunscreens (made from zinc oxide) which are eco-friendly and offer a different experience when compared to the chemical products I had been using.
My Blue Lizard Sunscreen Review Starts With the Application
As with any product review, you start at the beginning. In this case, that means my Blue Lizard Sunscreen review starts with me applying it to my skin. Well, the first thing you notice when putting it on is that it has a unique texture. It’s quite a bit thicker than chemical lotions, so you don’t have to put quite so much on to cover the same area.
I kept applying it until all my exposed skin was covered and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it didn’t feel greasy. It did take a little more effort to rub it in, but once I had, it was comfortable.
And so, the next part of my journey involved me going outside…
I Got Comfortable, Effective Protection
Another nice aspect of my mineral sunscreen experience was that I didn’t have to wait the usual 20-30 minutes for the product to fully absorb into the skin. I went out straight away and as I was working on my lawn, I made sure to reapply it every 2 hours (as it advised me to do on the bottle).
I was outside for a total of around 5 hours and it was pretty hot, so I was expecting to feel that familiar sunburn tingle across my shoulders. However, that feeling never materialised. After showering, my skin felt like I hadn’t been out in the sun at all. Sure, I did feel a slight glow, but nothing like my previous chemical product left me feeling after a day working in the yard. Even though I have fair skin, my sunscreen protected me like nothing I’ve ever tried before.

Having never tried a mineral sunscreen lotion before, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. You buy products like this one to protect your skin and it certainly does that for me. I started using Blue Lizard sun lotion around a year ago and I’ve not had even a hint of sunburn since.
The added benefit that it’s environmentally conscious tips the balance for me and I don’t intend to change back anytime soon. I really hope that my review helps you realise that there are some great mineral products out there that need to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
