What inspired you to start Love Luxury and specialise in pre-loved designer brands?
When I met my husband Adam five years ago, he specialised in luxury goods, and I had been in the beauty and aesthetic industry for a long time. For a while, we ran our businesses separately, but as Covid put a pause on the cosmetic side of things, we decided to focus on what we could do, which was e-commerce. We noticed a significant gap in the market to buy and sell luxury goods at that time, which we focused on, and as Love Luxury took off online, we made the decision to open the first Love Luxury store in Knightsbridge, which has gone from strength to strength since opening at the start of last year.
What sets Love Luxury apart from other luxury stores in the market?
Our speed of service and customer care is second to none; our clients have become a community of which we’re really proud. Unlike many other luxury resale stores, we are inclusive of watches, bags, and jewellery, making us a one-stop shop for the most premium and exclusive designer products in the country.
How do you source your pre-loved designer items and ensure their authenticity?
We use a 3rd party authentication system which is trusted worldwide to ensure every piece in the store is 100% genuine; our team is also trained in recognising genuine goods. The majority of our products are sourced through sellers who find us on social media or by word of mouth. We have a really large community of luxury lovers who turn to us to buy and sell their designer goods too.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in investing in high-end pre-loved designer items?
Go for a classic! Don’t buy into trends or seasonal products; buy the classic pieces that have stood the test of time for decades and will continue to do so. That’s the only way you can ensure a return on your investment.
Can you share a funny story about a customer’s reaction to one of your products?
We have a lot of customers who visit the store and can’t believe the choice of bags they can get through us that they could only dream of buying from the brand directly. Design houses like Hermes make purchasing customers’ dream bags so difficult, with often very long waiting lists to ensure the brand keeps its exclusivity.
What’s the most expensive item you’ve ever sold, and to whom?
The most expensive single item we’ve ever sold was an exclusive limited edition Richard Mille watch at half a million pounds.
How has social media helped your business grow and gain popularity?
It’s been a great way to raise awareness of the business in general and give customers an insight into the brand. We love to have fun with the content we create, as well as using the platform to educate people in buying and selling luxury goods. We get visitors in the shop every week from all over the world who have watched us on TikTok and want to come and say hi; it’s really lovely!
What do you think sets your TikTok content apart from other luxury brand content on the platform?
We’re family-run, which is the main difference from the other big luxury brands and pre-loved sites, but we also don’t take ourselves too seriously; we like to educate and entertain!
How do you balance running a successful business and managing your social media presence?
I’m lucky enough to have a really great team behind me who are passionate about the success of the company. The running of the business and the social media accounts are all part of the same job in my eyes; there isn’t one without the other.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a family-run business, and how have you overcome it?
Separating home and work life, Adam and I are together 24/7, so it’s sometimes hard to switch off from work when we get home, as it’s so easy to take conversations and events from that day home. We make sure there’s a balance between home and work life by switching off our phones and allocating family time together on a daily basis.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own luxury brand?
Re-invest, it’s the best way to ensure business growth.
What are some of the latest fashion trends that you are loving right now?
I really like the more neutral tones and modest fashion that is coming through at the moment. I am more of a classic lover, though, rather than a trend follower.
How do you decide which pre-loved designer items to stock in your store?
We specialise in watches, bags, and jewellery, primarily from Hermes, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Rolex.
What’s your favourite luxury item that you’ve ever owned or sold?
I did have a Gyrocopter which I loved and sold a little while back! My favourite ever purchase was my first Hermes, which was a Birkin 25 with gold hardware in baton.
Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects or collaborations that you have in the works?
We’re currently working on projects which will be taking Love Luxury global, so watch this space!
