National Bed Month: Five tips to make your bed more inviting

Sleep is so important for our mental and physical health and a few simple tweaks to make your bed look and feel more inviting can solve all your answers to having the best night’s sleep.

During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain functions and maintain your physical health. A good night’s sleep is what everyone needs, it has a huge impact on your mood and how your body is feeling for the day.

If you don’t dream of being in your bed at the end of a long day, that needs to change. Your bed should be comfy, cosy, and inviting. Here below are five tips, from visual expert and creator of Sewn London, a soft furnishing and homewares business, Becca Thurston, to try and help you get the perfect bed set up for the best night’s sleep.

Tips to make your bed more inviting

1.A supportive mattress and mattress protector: Consider upgrading to a mattress with comfort, support, and sustainability in mind. There are mattresses that can relieve pressure, provide support, and even keep you cool while you sleep. Trust me, a better mattress equals a better night’s sleep, guaranteed. You can’t achieve a truly cosy bed without a mattress protector. It is quite possibly the most underrated part of your bedroom setup but one of the most crucial to ensuring a restful night’s sleep. Why? Well, if you invest in a protector, it not only provides a little extra padding but depending on the one you choose, it can also have a cooling effect. Sleeping in a cool room, around 65 degrees, is the ideal temperature for sleep so this will be a lifesaver as the temperature rises in the hot summer months.

2.Add a throw and pillows: Adding a soft throw and big comfy pillows will add character, and texture and make a bed look stylish, cosy, and inviting. A bed without cushions can look empty and uninviting. However, having too many cushions can make it appear messy and busy. Accent pillows are crucial when designing your bed, as they look aesthetically pleasing and add some style. Pillows are also the simplest way to add textures and stunning pops of colour, and you can easily change them up whenever you’d like. Pillows also add your own personal touch to your room. In addition, they make your bed look much more inviting and comfortable. Arranging pillows on a bed is not as simple as just placing them down; it is an art, and you need to be strategic about it. There is a very thin line between pillows creating some visual appeal and excitement and looking downright messy and chaotic. My tip would be to arrange two stacks of pillows against your Then add a trio of some stunning decorative pillows and accent pillows in front of that. This look lets you get creative with textures, patterns, and even sizes

3. Upgrade your sheets: A new set of sheets can completely transform the way your bed feels. If you’re in need of a refresh, consider cotton for a lightweight feel, or splurge on silk for a glam upgrade. A linen set will also look and feel luxe in any bedroom. I would recommend that you go for white bed sheets, although these can look scary for those that fake tan. White bed sheets will give a classic, clean and luxurious look. White sheets are also the best if you despise creases – as ironing or steaming these out are much easier.

4. Invest in good pillows and a silk pillowcase: If you’re going to invest in high-quality bedding, a set of down pillows is a must. Consider various densities so that you can get the specific kind of support you’re looking for. You can usually find down pillows that are hypoallergenic, machine washable, and made of cotton for a comfortable night’s sleep. Investing in a good pillow is just as important as having a good pillowcase. It doesn’t get more luxe than a silk pillowcase. The material boasts benefits for your hair and skin while looking chic. If silk isn’t for you, opt for a high-quality cotton pillowcase to lay your head on each night.

5.A good sleep spray: If you have trouble sleeping, I would highly recommend investing in a sleep spray. Spraying a few sprays onto your pillow at night will help massively. Using the spray at night only will help your brain to learn that the smell of lavender is related to sleeping. Lavender is renowned for its ability to create a relaxing atmosphere. In fact, one of the main benefits of lavender is that it can calm without sedating. More than simply generating a serene state of mind, lavender can reduce anxiety by affecting the body’s fight-or-flight response. With your bed now being all nice and cosy, you should have no struggle in relaxing and peacefully drifting off to sleep.
