Indie Rock Band Beldon Haigh Releases Satirical Anthem ‘Elected’ Amidst Waning Public Trust in Political Parties

As Thursday’s election approaches, the public’s faith in all the main political parties seems to have dwindled. This sentiment is echoed by indie rock band Beldon Haigh, whose latest release reflects this disillusionment.

‘Elected’ is a satirical music video by Scottish indie rock band Beldon Haigh that takes a humorous look at why politics is on the ropes. The ‘Elected’ music video opens with the band using masks of different global political figures and focuses on a fake MP who boasts multiple rosettes on his chest as he strolls down a UK high street, confidently declaring lyrics such as “I don’t want to be inspected, I just want to get elected!” The song delivers a humorous take on the election, whilst capturing the nation’s general disillusionment with politics and politicians of ALL persuasions.

Recent research suggests that as many as one in five people have already made up their minds not to vote in the election and while the pop-rock song is already starting to take form as an ‘anti-establishment anthem’ ahead of the 2024 UK election, the band are keen to use the song to prompt people into using their vote to get their voices heard. Lead vocalist and songwriter Justin Skelton commented: “Politicians need to persuade us that they and their parties are worth voting for, that they are deserving of our support.”

Beldon Haigh will perform ‘Elected’ live at the Edinburgh Fringe over August where they will showcase their rock absurdist, comical new album ‘World Got So Dumb’ through masks of Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, including a one-off special performance at The Liquid Room on the closing evening of the festival.

Throughout the campaigning and inevitable bad-tempered sparring of political parties in the run-up to the election, Beldon Haigh hopes that the song will bring everyone a little bit of joy and laughter over the “blah, blah, blah” of politicians.
