Promoting your business? Here’s how to get people’s attention

When you are trying to promote your business and make more sales, the first, and most important thing you need to do is grab people’s attention, but how exactly do you do that? Here are a few ideas that should catch their eye.

1. Branded Pens Are Simple But Effective

Okay, so this one may seem a little old school or like it would not really be enough to attract the attention of very modern, very online, audiences, but you know what pens, like the ones from Myers Motor Merchandise, can actually be pretty good at getting people’s attention simply because lots of people still use them every day in the office or to make quick notes at home, They get passed around when people ask co-workers if they have a pen, and they often get left in places like cafes, or sit on desks where everyone can see them, So, those 50 pends that you hand out free to customers could be seen by hundreds of people, and if your brand is printed on those pens, that could be really good news for you!

2. Host a Ridiculously Fun Event (With Free Food)

People may scroll past your latest post or email, but throw a party, and they’ll turn up. Whether it’s a small networking event, a product launch, or a glorified excuse to serve cupcakes—give people a reason to show up. Pro tip: free food. Nothing grabs attention like free nibbles. It’s a fact that more than 80% of humans (OK, I made that up, but still) will attend anything for a slice of pizza. And while they’re there, hit them with your brand message, but make it fun, not a sales pitch snooze-fest.

3. Create Something People Actually Want to Share

Memes, funny videos, heartwarming stories—people love sharing content that makes them laugh, cry, or say “Same.” Creating something so engaging that people can’t help but repost it is your fast pass to viral heaven. No one wants to share a bland, corporate video of you listing your company’s benefits. But give them a 10-second clip of your team struggling to build flat-pack furniture with a message like “We work hard, even when the instructions make no sense,” and watch the shares roll in.

4. Surprise Swag

Want people to rave about you? Give them something they didn’t expect. Surprise mail, like branded notebooks, quirky tote bags, or quirky (but cool) branded socks. The idea is to give your audience something so random and useful, they can’t help but talk about it. “Oh yeah, I got this awesome branded tote bag from XYZ Company. Weird, but I use it all the time!” Brand recognition: achieved.

5. Use Social Media Like a Human

People can smell a sales pitch from a mile away. Don’t be that brand. Instead, use social media like a person would—chatty, fun, and engaging. Respond to comments, post behind-the-scenes chaos (because who doesn’t love seeing how the sausage gets made?), and stop sounding like a robot reading from a corporate manual. Be real, and people will listen.

6. Get a Mascot (No, Seriously)

Nothing turns heads quite like a quirky mascot wandering around town. It doesn’t have to be the next Mickey Mouse (though aim high), but a fun, memorable character representing your business can do wonders for brand recognition. Plus, it’s an excuse to have someone in a giant costume handing out branded pens, dancing awkwardly, and basically becoming the face of your business. Bonus points if you get the mascot to make surprise appearances on social media—because who can resist a random bear in a bowler hat crashing a Zoom meeting?

Now, you can get out there and grab their attention!
