Songstress Raquel Reno will be appearing at the Camden Club on Thursday 15th June when she plans to repeat the success of her recent successful debut gig at QT in Covent Garden.
Raquel’s musical career has taken her across the world; to China, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, London and finally to Nashville where she recorded with some of the legendary singers and renowned musicians behind the famed Muscle Shoals sound. Returning to the UK only recently the rising star has emerged as a singer-songwriter with an overwhelming display of talent.
Raquel will be supported by a 9-piece lineup of keyboards, drums and bass, trumpet, trombone and sax and three backing singers. She will unleash her powerful voice in a mix of her own compositions including Unbreakable and the poignant Is it Over? Along with cleverly reworked covers like Dusty Springfields’ Son of a Preacher Man and James Bay’s Hold Back the River in a mashup of pop melodies combining her love of soul and the sounds of the sixties.
She will sing openly and honestly about broken relationships, past family pressures to discard her dreams and settle down, and the challenges of being a young woman, fighting to stay afloat in the choppy waters of the music industry. Raquel is a musical storyteller with an innate vocal gift, an ability for translating thoughts into song, and a wicked way of engaging with the audience with humour, huge expressive eyes and a playful smile.
With songs saturated in the rich sounds of southern soul, you could be forgiven for thinking that Raquel is a classic diva from the 1960s. Perhaps that’s because, as a young girl in Cheltenham, Raquel devoured her parent’s music collection, discovering Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and Dinah Washington, whose voices she aspired to emulate.
Whether Raquel Reno is a soul-influenced pop singer or a pop-influenced soul singer, she is an immensely talented artist who promises to deliver an explosive and unforgettable performance.
