A new study has revealed the films and TV shows released so far in 2024 that have inspired the biggest fashion trends, with Challengers and Ripley both topping the list.
Fashion experts at Boohoo analysed data from Google Trends to determine which TV shows and films had the highest number of fashion-related searches.
Challengers and Ripley top the ranking, with a 5,002% online search increase in the UK. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Challengers focused on the love triangle between three tennis prodigies. The film took social media by storm when it was released back in April, inspiring countless outfit recreations.
In the film, Zendaya’s character, Tashi, wears a graphic tee that features the slogan ‘I Told Ya’ – a look inspired by John F. Kennedy Jr. Since the release of Challengers, there have been over 1,300 monthly searches for the ‘I Told Ya T-shirt.’ The film has also been credited for popularising tennis-related fashion trends, such as pleated skirts and stylish pullovers.

Ripley, an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’, received critical acclaim upon its release. Starring Andrew Scott as the titular character, the Netflix series featured 1960s Italian fashion moments. Online searches for ‘Ripley fashion’ skyrocketed in the UK, placing the series at the top of the ranking.
Fallout is in second place, with an online search increase of 4,595%. While the dystopian series is an unlikely fashion muse, searches for ‘Fallout fashion’ soared in the UK following its release on Amazon Prime Video. The video game adaptation also sparked searches for ‘Blue jumpsuit’ – the uniform that defined the ‘Vault Dwellers’ throughout the series. Following Fallout’s widespread success, ‘Blue jumpsuit’ has amassed an average monthly search volume of 3,300 searches in the UK.
My Lady Jane is in third place, with an online search increase of 4,466% in the UK. The series, which follows a romance set in the 16th-century, was met with widespread acclaim, but fans were outraged at the news that My Lady Jane had not been renewed for a second series. The show’s release on Amazon Prime Video prompted an increase in searches for ‘16th century fashion’ and ‘Renaissance fashion.’
