Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of 24-year-old Kariem Abdelhalim following an early-morning collision in North Kensington.
A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on Monday, 28 September, as detectives continued their investigation into the fatal incident. Both remained in custody when the update was issued. An arrest on suspicion of an offence is not a finding of guilt, and the public update did not announce any charges.
Fatal incident on North Pole Road
Emergency services were called at about 1.20am on Friday, 25 September, after reports that a man had been found seriously injured on North Pole Road. Abdelhalim was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was riding an e-bike shortly before the collision, according to the investigation update. Detectives believe he was being pursued by a moped at that point. That account is part of the inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death; it is not a concluded account of how the collision happened or who may be responsible.
The information released so far does not set out a motive, a full sequence of events, or the precise mechanism by which Abdelhalim received his fatal injuries. It also does not identify any alleged role for either person arrested beyond the stated suspicion. Those limits remain important while evidence is gathered and assessed.
Arrests mark a significant development
The investigation had already been opened as a murder inquiry after the death. At that stage, public information focused on the reported pursuit, the collision and an appeal for witnesses. The arrests are therefore a significant new development in the case, while the investigation itself remains ongoing.
Detectives say they have been following a number of lines of enquiry to establish what happened before the incident. Their work will include building a clearer picture of the events that night, rather than treating the reported pursuit as an established explanation of every aspect of the death.
Abdelhalim’s next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. The investigation update also acknowledges the need for answers for his family as detectives continue to examine the available information.
Appeal for information continues
People who were in the area during the early hours of 25 September may still hold information that helps investigators clarify the movements of the e-bike and moped, the events shortly before the collision, or the collision itself. Witness accounts, footage and other details can be important in establishing an accurate timeline.
Detectives say their appeal is not limited to people who saw the collision itself. Information about the time before it, including the movements of either vehicle, may help establish a more reliable sequence of events.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote reference 414/25SEP. Information may also be passed on anonymously through the relevant confidential reporting route.
For now, the confirmed position is that Abdelhalim died after being found seriously injured on North Pole Road; detectives say he had been riding an e-bike and was being pursued by a moped shortly before the collision; and two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The investigation is continuing, and further developments will depend on the evidence gathered by detectives.
