I think AI is making me about 4x more productive as a founder

I think AI is making me about 4x more productive as a founder

I’m a serial entrepreneur, and I’ve never been able to build businesses this fast. Two years ago, tasks that now take 30 minutes took anywhere from 2-3 hours to multiple days. Now I can get through more each day and fit tasks into smaller time blocks between other commitments. Everything moves faster.

I use different AI tools for coding, legal, marketing, design, and operations. Together, they are like a team. I pay between $20 and $200 per subscription, over $1000 per month. A year ago, that would have surprised me, but it feels like good value now. AI has become like a co-founder. I think I talk to AI more than I talk to people.

Building software

Tool: Lovable, Bolt, Replit and v0

The most obvious tools I use are Lovable, Bolt, Replit and v0 – often called “vibe coding” tools. You type in a prompt like “Build me an app to organise my grocery list”, hit enter, and seconds later you watch while the agent designs the app, writes code, and hosts it for free in minutes. A non-technical entrepreneur can build an app in 5 minutes.

Vibe Coding tools have come under fire for building pretty prototypes that don’t really work. If that was all they did, I’d still be grateful – one can learn so much from a prototype, from shaping the idea to testing it with users. But I’ve also been talking to founders who take these apps and turn them into fully functioning products. That often happens by combining vibe coding tools with others Claude Code to refine the prototypes and make them “production-ready”. For example, Simon Jenner, CEO of Million Labs, has launched about 2000 businesses like this in the last 2-3 years.

Legal documents

Tool: GitLaw

I’ve spent over £1,000,000 on legal documents over the last 15 years of building businesses. Most of the time, it felt completely unnecessary when all I wanted was a template with some minor changes. Or, when I’ve received a legal document, I’ve wanted to know ‘Is this more or less reasonable?’

The first thing I tried was ChatGPT, which is very confident in its answers, but I quickly lost faith when I noticed it had read less than half the document and missed important clauses. That’s why I built Git.Law, built for legal documents, what vibe coding tools like Lovable have done for coding. Prompt in natural language and get a document drafted or reviewed by AI built for legal busywork, for free.

Strategy and Product Management

Tool: ChatGPT and Claude

I use ChatGPT and Claude like additional team members. I’ll paste in a product spec, competitor’s page, or user interview and ask them to summarise, critique, or stress-test assumptions. I’ve stopped doing “blank page” work. The workflow now is: draft something fast, get AI to challenge it, iterate, and only then dive in myself. It compresses the first few hours of a task into minutes.

I’ve also found AI to be useful when you explicitly ask it to disagree with you. Most of the time, ChatGPT is too positive – sometimes sycophantic. The last two replies I got from it started with “Excellent” and “Perfect.” What I’d written was neither. With humans, I value people who challenge my ideas. Turns out, I can get AI to do the same. I’ll often write prompts like “What might I have missed?” or “Argue why I might be wrong.” The feedback I get is often sharper than what I’d get from a human on a busy day.

Dictation

Tool: SuperWhisper, Carbon Voice

The AI tools I use work best when I give them context, like human team members do. The trouble is that typing is slow. Luckily, every AI model I’ve used is fine with “ums” and “errs” – they don’t care. So you can easily use dictation to “write” prompts. SuperWhisper quickly became one of my most used apps – I press two keys, talk for a few minutes, and hit enter. The result is richer prompts and more enjoyable work.

Typing prompts or long messages can slow me down. With Carbon Voice, I hit a shortcut, start talking, and my voice becomes the prompt. I capture an idea, riff through a concept or give feedback – all with one tap. The AI transcribes, cleans it up and can turn it into an article or list of actions.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Other brilliant use cases include writing marketing content, writing emails, generating videos, pictures and much more. I also use it heavily in my personal life – planning holidays, helping figure out parenting a newborn, and building purple unicorn games for my 3-year-old daughter.

Funnily enough, one thing I’ve not found AI brilliant at is writing articles. I wrote this without the help of AI. It tends to generate content that feels very samey… and ultimately that doesn’t feel right.
