Why London’s most exciting food festival should be on your summer hit list

London’s food scene has never been more exciting. While big-name restaurants continue to dominate headlines, it’s often the passionate independent producers, artisan makers and local food pioneers who are quietly shaping the way we eat. That’s why I’m delighted to see the return of the Nourished Communities Food Festival, which is back for its second year this June and promises to be one of the capital’s most delicious days out.

Taking place on Sunday 21st June at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, this vibrant celebration of food, community and culture brings together some of London’s most innovative independent food and drink brands under one roof. Better still, tickets cost less than a cup of coffee, making it one of the most accessible food festivals in the city.

Following a hugely successful debut that attracted more than 2,500 visitors, this year’s event looks set to be even bigger. Created by the team behind Nourished Communities — the much-loved modern farm shop with stores across London the festival reflects everything the brand stands for: championing local producers, supporting sustainable food systems and connecting people with the stories behind what they eat.

What makes this festival particularly special is its focus on the people behind the products. Rather than simply browsing stalls, visitors can meet the makers, hear their stories and discover the passion that goes into creating some of London’s most exciting food and drink offerings.

Among the exhibitors this year are favourites including St John’s Wine & Bakery, Botivo, Agua de Madre, The London Empanada Co, Cobble Lane Cured, Bold Bean Co, Renegade Wine, Soffles, White Box Cocktails, Zaytoun and many more. Whether you’re a foodie searching for your next culinary obsession or simply looking for a fun family day out, there will be plenty to tempt your tastebuds.

But this isn’t just about eating and drinking. The festival will also host a packed programme of talks exploring food, farming, gardening and wellbeing, alongside hands-on workshops and activities for all ages. From cheese masterclasses and lavender wand making to circus performances, face painting and dancing for children, there is something for everyone.

In a city where community can sometimes feel hard to find, events like this are a reminder of the power food has to bring people together. It’s a chance to discover brilliant local businesses, support independent producers and spend a summer Sunday celebrating some of the best talent London has to offer.

As Nourished Communities founder Rollo Millership puts it:

“Nourished Communities Food Festival brings together some of the most talented food producers we work with. It is a thriving community of food, artists and music. Definitely one for the diary.”

I couldn’t agree more.
