Detectives investigating a shooting in Woolwich opened a murder inquiry on 6 November after the victim, named by the Metropolitan Police as Terry Dearsley, died in hospital on 4 November.
The Met said officers were called to reports of shots fired in Frances Street, Woolwich, at 20:09 on Thursday 22 October. On arrival they found a 32 year old man in a parked car with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.
Mr Dearsley, who was 32, died on Wednesday 4 November, the Met said on 6 November. The force said his family were being supported by specially trained officers.
Charge and court timetable
The Met previously charged a 48 year old man, Paul Rosser Davies of Brewhouse Road, Greenwich, with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, the force said. Those charges were brought on Sunday 1 November, before Mr Dearsley died.
Rosser Davies appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on Monday 2 November and was remanded to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday 30 November, the Met said. The case is next listed at the Central Criminal Court on 30 November.
The Met did not say whether the existing charges against Rosser Davies would be amended to reflect the new murder inquiry, or whether fresh charges might be brought. No arrest in connection with the murder has been announced, and the force has not released any description of a suspect or vehicle, the Met said.
What is known and what is not
Beyond the timeline of the shooting, hospital treatment and the subsequent death, little has been disclosed about the circumstances or any possible motive. The Met said detectives had opened a murder investigation on 6 November but gave no further details about enquiries under way.
Investigators will now consider evidence gathered after the incident on 22 October alongside material obtained since Mr Dearsley died, the force said. It is common for charges to be reviewed when a victim dies, but the Met did not specify any intended changes to the charges already brought.
The force has not appealed for witnesses or released additional public lines of enquiry in its announcement on 6 November. There has been no statement indicating further arrests or identifying anyone else connected with the case.
The shooting occurred in a residential part of Woolwich in the evening, and officers who initially attended treated the injured man at the scene before his transfer to hospital. The Met did not provide details of the weapon recovered or any forensics findings in its statement.
Mr Dearsleys family are being supported by specialist officers, the Met said. No additional personal information about him was released beyond his name and age.
The development will be considered by the Crown Prosecution Service as the case proceeds through the courts, and the next public hearing is due at the Central Criminal Court on 30 November. The Met said detectives would continue their enquiries and assess all available evidence as part of the homicide investigation.
