Motivating and supporting your staff members is the key to running a successful business. By improving motivation and supporting them, not only will you see an increase in the amount of money you are bringing in – because they are more motivated to work – but you will also see a reduction in staff turnover – because your staff members are happy and don’t want to leave.
Motivating your staff members doesn’t have to be seen as a difficult task, in fact, there are many techniques that you can apply to help motivate them. First off, making sure their working environment is a positive space will help. Next, rewards such as a bonus, pay rise or extra time off can incentivise. And finally investing in training shows you care and this will help improve their performance levels.
Below we look more into our three points above.
The working environment is a positive space
Having a nice space that your employees can be proud to work in can do wonders for their motivation. Not only does a positive space build excitement when coming into work, but they will also tell others about it outside of work. To build a nice working environment you need to think about your interiors such as wall colours, and flooring. Plants and mirrors are a great way to add another dynamic to the room and you also want to consider your amenities, such as commercial coffee machines, breakfast items, nice soaps in the bathroom etc.
Offer rewards to your staff members
Rewards are often the route that a lot of businesses will go down when trying to increase motivation within the workplace. You can offer monthly rewards if KPIs are hit, and then treat them to a voucher for their favourite restaurant, a small financial bonus, a gift such as flowers, an experience like gin mixing, extra time off work for the parents within your company or something related to health and fitness if they are into their physical health. If you are unsure of what rewards to offer, you can reach out to your employees and ask them what they would like to win if they are doing well.
Investing in training
A lot of your staff members will be career-focused and want to develop, gaining promotions and more responsibilities. To support these staff members and increase their motivation, offering to put them on training programs will be something they will enjoy and benefit hugely from. Training courses are available in all disciplines, meaning you can support your marketing team, sales team or accounts team. By investing in your staff, it shows you care about their career and by them improving their skills, it should hopefully help your business. Training programs can be done online or face to face, this is down to you and your staff’s preference.
