London’s best £1 morning out: Tottenham’s No Car Boot Sale heads to The Elmhurst

London’s best £1 morning out: Tottenham’s No Car Boot Sale heads to The Elmhurst

Tottenham’s No Car Boot Sale is rounding off its first year with its biggest event yet, bringing around 65 sellers, local food traders, DJs and Bloody Marys to the Elmhurst pub on Sunday 22 November.

Taking place from 10am to 1pm, the event will fill the pub’s indoor spaces and partially covered outdoor area with vintage finds, furniture, clothing, toys, books and second-hand treasures. Entry is just £1, with under-16s getting in free, making it an affordable Sunday outing in North London.

With Christmas approaching, it is also a chance to pick up gifts with a little more history, browse for something unexpected and enjoy a morning of shopping, music and food at one of Tottenham’s historic pubs.

A car boot sale without the cars

Set up by four local women in 2026, No Car Boot Sale brings the variety and bargain hunting of a traditional car boot into Tottenham, without the rows of parked cars.

Its first three events welcomed more than 4,000 visitors between them, with shoppers browsing everything from vintage clothing and furniture to children’s toys and books. Each event has grown, bringing together people clearing out their homes, shoppers searching for a bargain and local independent food and drink businesses.

For the November finale, the organisers are swapping their usual home at West Green Primary School for the Elmhurst. The one-off move means room for around 65 sellers, making this the largest No Car Boot Sale so far.

Stalls will be spread across the pub’s indoor spaces and outdoor area, which is partially covered. There will be plenty to explore, whether visitors turn up with a list of things they need or simply want to see what catches their eye.

Second-hand Christmas shopping

The timing makes the event an opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done before December arrives.

With clothing, vintage finds, toys, books and furniture among the items on offer, shoppers can look for presents, refresh their wardrobes or find something for their homes. For families, the toy and book stalls offer another reason to browse, while vintage fans can enjoy searching through clothing and other second-hand pieces.

Part of the appeal is the unpredictability. Unlike a trip to the high street, there is no set shopping list or identical stock from one stall to the next. What is available depends on what sellers bring along, and finding something unexpected is all part of the morning.

The event also gives items a chance to find a new home, turning someone’s clear-out into another person’s favourite purchase.

Tottenham food, coffee and music

Alongside the stalls, the organisers are bringing together a line-up of food and drink from Tottenham businesses.

Techno Verde will serve coffee, Be More Shirley will provide pastries and LICKS will bring ice cream. The Elmhurst will also be serving £5 bacon sandwiches and mugs of car boot tea, with Bloody Marys available for those settling in for a leisurely Sunday.

DJs will be playing and selling vintage records, adding a soundtrack to the shopping and giving record collectors something to browse.

Food, coffee and music have been part of No Car Boot Sale’s appeal throughout its first year. The pub setting brings those elements together in a new space, where visitors can meet friends, explore the stalls and take a break over something to eat or drink.

Once the sale finishes at 1pm, shoppers can stay on for one of the Elmhurst’s Sunday roast dinners, turning a morning of bargain hunting into a longer afternoon out.

A historic Tottenham setting

Built in 1903 and brought back to life in August 2025, the Elmhurst sits on Lordship Lane, opposite Bruce Castle Park.

Its striking historic exterior, stained-glass windows and ornate Edwardian interior provide a distinctive backdrop for the November event. Moving into the pub also gives visitors the chance to explore a different Tottenham venue while supporting local sellers and independent businesses.

The Elmhurst takeover is for this event only. West Green Primary School remains No Car Boot Sale’s regular base.

Celebrating a busy first year

Hannah Isichei, co-organiser of No Car Boot Sale, says:

“We’ve created a beast! Each event has grown and then grown again, and it’s been brilliant seeing people come back with friends, bags and a plan to find something good.

“Tottenham is such a buzzing place, full of creative people and brilliant independent businesses. We wanted to bring that together and show a side of Tottenham that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves.

“Finishing our first year at the Elmhurst, with even more sellers and a roast dinner to follow, feels like a lovely way to celebrate.”

After three events and more than 4,000 visitors, the November finale brings the first year to a close with more stalls and a new setting, while keeping the mix of second-hand shopping, local food and music that has helped the sale grow.
