Morty And Bob’s, Kings Cross – Review

Morty And Bob’s, Kings Cross

Morty & Bob’s, located in King’s Cross, is a multi-faceted establishment serving a range of American, English, and European fare. Known for their renowned grilled cheese sandwich, I decided to visit and see what all the fuss was about. This all-day café, restaurant, and bar offers a variety of options, from quick sandwiches to sit-down steaks. Based on my visit, I can confidently say that Morty & Bob’s lives up to its reputation for delicious, hearty meals.

On a weekday evening, I found Morty & Bob’s to be bustling and lively, with a full house of patrons. The restaurant’s underground location and arched architecture give it a grand, industrial vibe that is both impressive and welcoming. The warm colour scheme and cosy atmosphere contribute to the inviting atmosphere, making it a lively and enjoyable place to dine.

Morty & Bob’s offers two separate menus, one for daytime and one for evening dining. Upon ordering from the evening menu at 7:30 PM, I was disappointed to find that many options were already unavailable due to the high volume of diners. This suggests that the restaurant serves some truly exceptional dishes, though it was unfortunate not to be able to try them. The staff were attentive and helpful in guiding us through the available menu options.

Morty & Bob’s lived up to its reputation for outstanding grilled cheese sandwiches with my order of the classic version with mixed onions. The sandwich exceeded expectations and was enhanced by my personal addition of ketchup. The restaurant’s grilled cheese with pastrami, mustard, and pickles was another standout, elevating the classic sandwich with the savoury addition of pastrami. I also highly recommend starting your meal with their delicious pigs in blankets.

For my main dish, I ordered Bob’s burger with fries, featuring an aged chuck and rib cap patty, burger sauce, Emmental cheese, slow-cooked onions, and a brioche bun. While the burger itself was decent, it didn’t stand out as particularly memorable. The bun could have been crispier, but it was served hot and fresh. The fries, on the other hand, were a reliable and satisfying choice. For dessert, I indulged in Gio’s tiramisu pudding, which was absolutely divine and left me wanting more.

While the limited availability of menu items due to the restaurant’s popularity, my overall experience at Morty & Bob’s was enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend trying out their grilled cheese sandwiches. The restaurant’s convenient location near King’s Cross Station and warm, cosy atmosphere, particularly for those who appreciate the industrial aesthetic of the British Railway, made for a pleasant dining experience.
