New HiQ Tyres & Autocare data uncovers a Toyota Prius with enough miles on the clock to drive around the Earth almost 15 times
London may be famous for its buses, tubes and trains, but new research from HiQ Tyres & Autocare has uncovered one vehicle that’s spent an extraordinary amount of time on the road.
In a survey of nearly 60,000 vehicles across its nationwide network, HiQ Tyres & Autocare identified a Toyota Prius in Greater London that has travelled an incredible 363,894 miles, making it one of the highest-mileage vehicles recorded anywhere in Britain. The impressive total is equivalent to travelling around the Earth almost 15 times, highlighting just how far a well-maintained vehicle can go.
HiQ’s research also found that vehicles in Greater London have an average mileage of 59,551 miles, demonstrating that while many journeys in the capital may be made using public transport, some vehicles still rack up enormous distances over their lifetime.
The discovery forms part of HiQ’s new High-Mile Club, launched after the company analysed vehicles from across the country in search of Britain’s hardest-working motors. Nationally, the highest mileage recorded belonged to a 12-year-old Peugeot Expert in Northamptonshire, which had covered an astonishing 488,100 miles, equivalent to more than 19 trips around the Earth.

“It shows that while many Londoners rely on public transport for everyday travel, there are still thousands of vehicles working incredibly hard across the capital, whether that’s for commuting or family life.
“Reaching this sort of mileage is only possible through regular servicing and preventative maintenance. Modern vehicles are capable of going much further than many people expect when they’re properly looked after. While very few vehicles will ever exceed 300,000 miles, reaching six-figure mileage is increasingly achievable with regular servicing and preventative maintenance.
Regular servicing, MOTs and simple vehicle health checks can help identify minor issues before they become more costly repairs, while maintaining the correct tyre pressures, checking fluid levels and replacing worn components can all help improve reliability and extend a vehicle’s lifespan.
